. . . . was the question posed on the telephone yesterday.

I had a new customer ring me to see if we had something that was a little different, something that was not just the usual run of the mill dinner suit. He had been searching the internet and had come across the Laurie Hopkins Menswear website where we have many hirewear and ready to wear pictures but he was looking for something a little different. So the question was, could we find him a suitable Dinner Suit before his deadline for the Winter Ball?

this dinner suit is amongst our best sellers because it allows the wearer to have a Dinner Suit that is different yet still be discrete and classy. This suit, alongside the traditional White Tuxedo, is a firm favorite with anyone who is going on a cruise.

So if your looking for a different dinner suit or tuxedo, just what is there availabe?

‘Off the Peg’, there are a number of options, obviously there is the stripped dinner suit mentioned above however, we also have availabe an American Range of Evening Suits and Prom Suits that would not look out of place at a glitzy Hollywood Awards ceremony.

Favorites from this range (particularly for those who are looking for a Prom Suit) are the Black and the White Neru Collar (or Mandarin Collar) Suits with no buttons on the front,

First, let me apologise for not posting on the blog for a while, its been very busy time here at Laurie Hopkins Menswear.

Last week saw the arrival of many reps and agents with their Spring Summer 2009 collections (I will post later about these ranges), many of these agents carry more than one companies ranges and as you can imagine, it can get quite hectic when you are looking at 3-4 ranges on a morning and then others in the afternoon.

However, not content with looking at ranges last week we also were a member of staff down as Jayne took a few (Very well earned) days off. We were also busy in the shop as our sale is coming to an end and the New Autumn/Winter 08/09 ranges flood in.

One day last week, we took delivery of over 100 pairs of trousers, 120 shirts and knitwear as well as over 50 Suits, Jackets and Overcoats - that was a busy day I can tell you.

I have taken a few photos of the new ranges along with the buying etc and I will post them later this week, so keep coming back and having a look at our blog.

Some years ago, we decided that we would start closing on Bank Holidays here at Laurie Hopkins Menswear, the reason behind that decision was that we were never really that busy on the previous occasions when we had opened and the chance of having a day off together with our family is always welcomed - so this year saw no exception and we closed for the August Bank Holiday.

This morning when the alarm went off, I would quite cheerfully turned over and fallen asleep again but thankfully I didn’t.

As I arrived for work at 8:55am there was already someone waiting on the doorstep, then we had a flood of Wedding Hire Returns from the busy weekend previously as well as the post etc.

Just when it started to quieten down again, Mick said ‘we could do with some deliveries’, the bell went and in walked 2 delivery drivers with 60+ pairs of trousers & 24 Sports Jackets for the Autumn Winter 2008.

There’s never a dull moment on a shop floor!

A few years ago, we had what can only be described as a true Yorkshireman come into our shop here at Laurie Hopkins Menswear.

We offer an alteration service (if you buy the garment from us its FREE of charge - but that’s another story!) and an elderly man came in to see if Lauire could taper a pair of trousers he had that went with a Jacket to form a suit.

The Suit was over 30 years old, the jacket still fit him and despite the lapels being wide, the customer said he could live with that. It was the trousers that were the problem, they were flaired trousers and very obviously, they were not of the fashion of the day.

The customer asked Laurie if he could taper the trousers so that he could wear the suit again and not look out of place.

Laurie told him that he could and there would be no problem.

Our customer then asked ‘Only, can you leave the material on the inside when you taper them, just incase flared trousers make a come back!’

On an already 30 year old suit, a true Yorkshireman if ever I have met one.

Wow, what a hectic week socially for the team here at Laurie Hopkins Menswear, we have had this week (as we have for the last 5 or so years) 2 birthdays.

Monday saw Mick’s birthday - he continually reminds us that he shares his birthday with The Queen Mother, so there was one thick head.

Today (Saturday) is Jayne’s birthday and she has spent it working but no doubt she will make up for it tonight.

Happy Birthday Mick and Jayne.
