First of all, let me start with an apology! It has been sooooo long since I have written about life here at Laurie Hopkins Menswear in Huddersfield, we have been so busy with so many projects, buying, sales and offers that I have found it hard to get the time - lame excuse I know but its true!

Life on the shop floor of a Huddersfield Menswear Store has been quite good despite the recession and I have a good deal of things to tell you about.

We have had an interesting time supplying a MAJOR MOTION PICTURE with over 125 shirts and ties for the filming of the latest in instalment of the film - but I will post more of that later,

So for now, I will sign off and be back very soon to let you know about what has been happening on the shopfloor.

Following the famous victory by Huddersfield Giants against St Helens in the Semi Final of the Rugby League Challenge Cup, the actual Carnegie Challenge Cup will be on proud display here at Laurie Hopkins Menswear on Friday 15th August around 12:30pm for 2 hours.

We are inviting people to ‘come on down’ and have their photograph’s taken with this famous trophy here is our shop. Anyone who comes into the shop whilst the trophy is here will be able to enter into a prize draw to win a pair of tickets to the final.

Good luck Giants on Saturday 29th August.

It doesn’t seem 2 minutes since I was posting on here telling people about the exciting new season stocks that was arriving daily here at Laurie Hopkins Menswear and yet now we find ourselves in the middle of the Spring Summer Sale - how time flys when your having fun!!

We have bargains throughout the store with all Summer 09 Trousers, Suits, Shirts and knitwear now reduced. There is a bargain rail with knitwear from £10 and Shirts from as little as £8.

Having just returned from a nice sunny break in Tenerife, Jayne was filling me in on what has been happening whilst I was away. She mentioned that whilst phoning one of our suppliers, (Douglas & Grahame who produce the Douglas range, DG ranges, Cruise and Wellington ranges) they mentioned that they had seen this Menswear Blog!!

So, it would appear that its not only Laurie and Jayne who read my posts on Menswear but some of our suppliers are starting to take an interest also.

With this in mind, I would like to say hello to the boys and girls at Douglas and Grahame, in particular the sales team who are amongst some of the best in the country - thanks for all your help, particularly when we ring up and say - ‘I have a customer who is looking for a brown trouser, do you have such a thing’ and who then have to describe around 10 different style of trousers, shades and variations. Thank you for being so patient with us!!

After watching one particular episode of the TV programme ‘Mary - Queen of Shops’ and seeing her ask the question ‘What is your Target age group?’, I have always wondered just what I would say if asked that question.

Jayne has always claimed that it would be impossible for us to give an answer to this because as she says, ‘we have to be all things to all people!’

This was highlighted today when I picked up the telephone to answer a call and I was asked if we did Prom Suit hire - now anyone who has read this blog will know we do - see the previous post!!

After explaining to the lady on the telephone that we had a great prom suit offer on at the moment, I was called into the shop to help an elderly couple with a Cardigan they had bought from us previously and which they wanted to change to a larger size.

The man explained that they were a rather remarkable pair, they were in fact twins (not Husband and Wife as I had thought) and that they were both (obviously!) 92 years old. His Sister went onto explain how she liked visiting our shop because ‘it is so easy to park the car outside’ (we have FREE FORECOURT PARKING) and so it was not far for her brother to walk to the shop. They went onto explain how they had left their elder Sister at home!

In the space of 10 mins, I had dealt with 2 seperate customer enquires with an age difference of 76 years! So now you see how difficult it would be for us to define our target age group!

As we finish for Christmas here at Laurie Hopkins Menswear, we would like to take this opportunity to wish our Customers, Family and Friends a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

I have always wondered if that often used marketing ploy of ‘as seen on TV’ actually works and if it does, just what does it take so that you can use the phrase ‘as seen on TV’?

Well, here at Laurie Hopkins Menswear, we now have the chance to use that slogan in our advertising because one of our ads has actually been seen on TV.

Whilst this is a very tenuous link and I have to say that were stretching it a bit - never the less, one of our recent adverts was actually seen on TV.

The programme was Look North, where Paul the Weatherman did an article on the Huddersfield Examiner going from an evening paper to a morning paper after over 150 years of tradition.

During the article, the production crew visited a Huddersfield newsagents to see the first Examiners hit the street at 5am in the morning.

It just so happens that Laurie Hopkins Menswear had a strip advert on the bottom of the front page and so, as the camera zoomed in on the stack of Huddersfield Examiners on display, the Laurie Hopkins Menswear advert was clearly shown to anyone who saw the article.

There you have it, Laurie Hopkins Menswear - as seen on TV!

He and Jayne were invited to the Yorkshire Ridings luncheon at Whitley Hall (Sheffield) but unfortunately, Jayne couldn’t make it so Michael invited his Niece, Carla Coulson along for the day.

Michael said it was a splendid occasion, the sun shone all day and the food & wine were terrific and the company excellent.
