As well as visiting the Moda Menswear Exhibition in Birmingham on Monday 11th August 2008, we took the opportunity to visit one of our Made to Measure customers and deliver them their new suit and trousers.

On our way back from Birmingham we ’switched hats’ and changed from our ready to wear department into our Travelling Tailor department and visited our client in Nottingham.

First thing Monday (11/08/08) morning, Jayne and I set off for the 2009 Spring/Summer Moda Menswear exhibition (Birmingham NEC) where many of our current suppliers as well as one or two prospective suppliers were showing their Spring/Summer 2009 Menswear collections.

Melka at Moda Menswear

Whilst the show was somewhat lacking in the number suppliers who were exhibiting, it certainly was not lacking in the quality of the garments that were on display.

Amongst our current suppliers who were showing, Melka had a stunningly simple stand that showed their ranges to perfection. Meyer were there with their trousers and were Bruhl. Last seasons success story Campione had a large stand which allowed us a great sneak preview of their 2009 range, this was yet again a real winner with its large collection of Linen shirts and as always its ‘nautical’ themed section.

Other notable exhibitors included, Gabicci, Farah, Douglas & Grahame, Folkespeare and Baileys.

The Moda exhibition is an important part of our new seasons buying because it allows us the chance to see so many of our suppliers ranges under one roof, this in turn enables us to make comparisons from one collection to another so that we can ‘cherry pic’ the winners from each supplier.

As always, we were on the lookout for new suppliers and this year we managed to secure an exciting new label that is currently being talked about in very glowing terms within the trade and one that we were very fortunate to get. We will be announcing this new label in the near future as and when the Autumn/Winter ranges that we ordered arrive in the shop - as the saying goes, watch this space.

100% Cotton Non-Iron Shirt from Shirtnly.com

100% Cotton Non-Iron Shirt from Shirtnly.com

On Thursday I (Michael) spent some of the morning adding a few new products to our on-line store (Shirtnly.com).

We have secured a great new range from Redford Shirts (part of the Seidensticker group) of 100% non-iron cotton shirts that are set to break all records for our on-line shirt sales this winter.

Included in the new additions were 3 Black-ground shirts with white stripes or checks as well as a white-ground with Black stripes.

These shirts represent fantastic value for money at only £20 each for a 100% non-iron Cotton shirt and best of all (just to add further value) they are also included in our ever popular Click 4 Deals offer where if you buy 4 shirts (they can be different colours) you receive a discount of £10, meaning you can buy 4 100% Cotton Non-Iron shirts for ONLY £70 and don’t forget this ‘deal’ would also qualify for FREE UK MAINLAND delivery.

Wow, what a hectic week socially for the team here at Laurie Hopkins Menswear, we have had this week (as we have for the last 5 or so years) 2 birthdays.

Monday saw Mick’s birthday - he continually reminds us that he shares his birthday with The Queen Mother, so there was one thick head.

Today (Saturday) is Jayne’s birthday and she has spent it working but no doubt she will make up for it tonight.

Happy Birthday Mick and Jayne.

When you spend most of your life in a Menswear shop, you can be forgiven for losing track of not only the seasons but also years!

Last week saw not only the first week of August but also the first of our many appointments with the various reps and agents who come to see us with their Menswear collections for SPRING SUMMER 09!

Yes, we really do have to order garments so far in advance - infact, the ‘buying season’ here in the UK is getting earlier and earlier every year. We never used to see agents or reps until the beginning of September yet here we are now, a full month earlier and were wishing our current Summer away.

On Monday, Jayne and I are traveling down too the NEC (Birmingham) to visit the Moda Menswear show, this will give us an insight into what is available for next year from all our existing suppliers and hopefully one or two new ones - we will keep you posted.
